Visit Georgia’s ancient capital & religious centre, Mskheta & POOL DAY
Mtskheta is the religious centre of Georgia and it is home to many of Georgia’s holiest sites. King Mirian III and Queen Nana, who were the first of Georgia’s kings and queens to convert to Christianity, are buried in the Samtavro Monastery. The original site dates back to the 4th century. Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the second largest church in Georgia and the burial site of many of Georgia’s kings, is also located in Mskheta.
Have lunch in a local restaurant before visiting Jvari Monastery. Jvari Monastery perches on a promontory above the town of Mskheta and on the opposite side of the Aragvi River. The monastery dates back to the ninth century. From its vantage point at the top of the hill you look down on the confluence of two of Georgia’s largest rivers-the Mtkvari and Aragvi. After visiting the Jvari Monastery you can go for a relaxing swim at one of Tbilisi’s best guest houses, Guest House Dream View and an evening barbecue!
