TWO-DAY VISIT TO THE WINE REGION OF GEORGIA- KAKHETI (EAST GEORGIA)

For wine lovers no visit to Georgia is complete without a visit to the main wine-making region of Georgia, Kakheti. We’ll visit the capital of Kakheti, Telavi and enjoy the Telavi Museum and the palace of one of Georgia’s most famous kings, King Erekle II. We will also make a trip to the beautiful and historic Tsinandali Estate – the home of one of Georgia’s most esteemed noblemen, Alexander Chavchavadze. Alexander Chavchavadze was also a renowned poet, public benefactor and military figure. We’ll stay overnight in a boutique hotel in the small village of Ruispiri near Telavi. 
The next day learn more about Georgian history and winemaking with a visit to the beautiful citadel city of Sighnaghi. Explore the city and visit the Sighnaghi Museum. Have lunch in a local winery with wine tasting followed by a visit to the ninth century Bodbe Nunnery before returning to Tbilisi.

Stepantsminda is a quaint mountain town at the base of the great Mount Kazbeg, one of Georgia’s highest peaks and a firm favourite with mountain climbers visiting the region in season. The journey up to Stepantsminda is very scenic and we’ll stop along the way to enjoy the views as we climb higher and high into the Caucasus mountains on ever-more winding roads. On arrival  we’ll have lunch followed by a hike up to the Trinity Church. The following day we’ll visit some nearby waterfalls and enjoy a walk before making the return journey to Tbilisi refreshed by the mountain air!
